An inmate who died Friday at the state prison in Stillwater was identified Monday as William D. Lazzaro, 30, of Deer River, Minn.

Authorities said Lazzaro "was having medical issues" at the prison and died after efforts to revive him failed.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was begun before Lazzaro was taken to Regions Hospital, where he died, according to a statement from Bayport police.

Authorities have yet to say more about what led to Lazzaro's death. Autopsy results are pending from the Ramsey County medical examiner's office.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Bayport police are investigating.

Lazzaro was serving time for a felony drunken-driving offense and was scheduled to be released in 2016, according to his family.
