Stewart draws interest from Ole Miss

Vikings wide receivers coach has close ties to Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier kept wide receivers coach George Stewart on his staff after letting go three offensive assistants last week.

Stewart is highly respected inside the organization and is a likely candidate to remain on staff regardless of what Frazier decides to do with his offensive coordinator position.

But we've confirmed rumors that Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has expressed interest in hiring Stewart to his staff too. Nutt hired Miami Dolphins quarterbacks coach David Lee as offensive coordinator this week, but Stewart likely would assume an assistant head coach role if he joins that staff.

It's unclear whether Stewart is interested in returning to the college game but he has a long history with Nutt. The two grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas at the same time and were teammates at Arkansas. They also were young coaches on Lou Holtz's staff at Arkansas in 1983.
