BRADENTON, FLA. – Lefthander Stephen Gonsalves worked three-plus innings Tuesday in the Twins' 10-4 victory over Pittsburgh.

Outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. hit a bases-clearing triple as part of a five-run ninth inning that broke the game open. Infielders Luis Arraez and Nick Gordon also came off the bench to help in the late innings.

All were cheerful after the game — even though all four were optioned to the minors as the Twins cut their spring training camp roster down to 47.

"All those guys made the best out of their camp," Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. "It was a good group to be also to talk to and say a lot of positive things to because they earned it."

Tyler Austin was 2-for-4 with a home run and Lucas Duda added two hits as the Twins moved to 9-8-2 in exhibition games.

Gonsalves gave up five earned runs over eight innings in exhibition games, flashing a fastball that touched 93 miles per hour at times — up from the 90- to 91-mph heaters he threw last season.

Although he's leaving at the midpoint of camp, Gonsalves could be in the mix for a quick call-up if needed in the rotation during the regular season.

"I'll just go back to the other side and keep working on what I was working on here," said Gonsalves, who will join Class AAA Rochester. "They're passing down the message of what we're working on. There's a lot of good communication with this new staff. Everyone's on the same page."

Wade, who batted .296 and is second on the team with 10 RBI, and Gordon, who batted .300, also were optioned to Rochester. Arraez, who was sent to Class AA Pensacola, hit .167.
