State university faculty reach tentative contract settlement

August 26, 2015 at 12:09AM

Faculty members at Minnesota's seven state universities will receive a 2.2 percent raise this fall under a tentative contract agreement announced Tuesday.

The two-year agreement also calls for a 3.4 percent salary bump for adjunct instructors in the 2016-17 school year.

Other faculty members will receive a 1 percent salary increase, and a step increase, in the second year of the contract.

The agreement was reached by the Inter Faculty Organization, which represents some 4,000 faculty members, and the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. The contract covers instructors at Bemidji State, Metropolitan State University, Minnesota State University Mankato, Minnesota State University Moorhead, St. Cloud State, Southwest Minnesota State and Winona State universities.

Union President Jim Grabowska said that members will have a chance to vote on the tentative settlement in coming weeks.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
