A Minnesota lawmaker faces foreclosure on a Carver County property which he said is due in part to a business decision.
Rep. Ernie Leidiger, R-Mayer, is among four registered mortgagors who owe Navy Federal Credit Union $499,267 on the property, which Leidiger described as a small farm, originally purchased in 2007 for $600,000. According to the notice, the mortgagors of the home at 7775 Tacoma Avenue in Mayer are Leidiger, Janelle Leidiger and Linda and James Leidiger. Leidiger, who is serving his second term, lists the property as his home address on his legislative biography.
Leidiger, who bought the property with his now ex-wife, brother and sister-in-law, said divorce and other circumstances led to the foreclosure. The property is scheduled for a sheriff's sale Feb. 28, according to a notice published last month on the Sun Patriot website, which serves Waconia Patriot and Carver County News newspapers.
Leidiger said the property will likely be re-purchased by one of the owners. Selling the property wasn't an option, he added.
"It's going to end up probably with one entity getting ahold of the place and running with it," Leidiger said. "There's no other way to go through with this thing."
