State Patrol looking for truck driver near fatal crash that killed two Moorhead brothers

The Minnesota State Patrol is looking for the driver of a semitrailer truck that appeared to be "extremely close" to a pickup that crashed Tuesday on Interstate 94, killing two teenage brothers.

A surviving passenger told investigators that the semitrailer truck was very close to the pickup moments before the crash about 9:10 a.m. near Dalton. A reconstruction of the crash supports that, according to the patrol.

The pickup hit the shoulder on the left side of the eastbound lanes, and the driver "overcorrected to the right and then rolled into the median," the patrol said in a statement. "[The] vehicle ended up in the westbound lanes of I-94."

The pickup's driver, Zach Kvalvog, 18, of Moorhead, and his brother, 14-year-old Connor, were killed. Two other teens in the pickup were injured. They were going to a basketball tournament in Wisconsin.

The semitrailer truck is described as a white box-type trailer with a green or red tractor. Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information about the truck or its driver is asked to call the patrol at 218-846-8244.
