State fishing report
Annandale: Lake Sylvia, Clearwater and Sugar are producing some walleye action at 18-28 feet using bottom bouncers with spinners and minnows or crawlers. Northerns and bass are active on most area lakes. Northerns are being caught at about 12-20 feet with sucker minnows while Pleasant and Clearwater Lakes are best spots to catch bass on plastic baits.
Chisago City area: Walleye action has slowed down but anglers are catching a few on Green, South Lindstrom, or Chisago Lakes during the early mornings or late evenings at 16-20 feet using crawlers, leeches or fathead minnows. Northerns are hitting on spinners or Rapalas on Green or Chisago along weed edges. Bass are taking plastic baits on South Lindstrom or South Center.
Duluth area: Anglers are catching some walleyes on Rice and Boulder Lakes at deeper depths using primarily leeches. Walleye and Sturgeon action is picking up on the St. Louis River. Northerns are hitting on smaller-sized minnows along weedlines on Mud Lake.
Leech Lake: Nice-sized walleyes are being caught on Traders Bay and the main-lake structure around reefs such as Annex, Mokey and Huddles, using crawlers at 12-15 feet. A few good walleye spots are on Walker Bay near the humps at 25-30 feet as well as Sand and Breezy Point at 10-14 feet using Shad Raps. Bass action is good on most bays while muskie action is good off rocks and points.
Lake Milacs: Some of the better spots for walleye action have been The Cut, the 7-Mile Flat and the gravel bars. During the daytime, anglers are catching walleyes at 28-30 feet using spinners with crawlers or minnows, while during the evenings, slip bobbers with leeches is an effective method. Smallmouth bass action has been active lately as well on areas such as the Myr Mar rock reefs using jigs with minnows.
Rainy Lake: A large number of walleye over 20 inches are being found in the junctures of the offshore reef where the rock face meets with clay or mud on the lake floor. Depth hasn't mattered much, rather just finding the transitional area.
