Rainy Lake/Rainy River: Anglers continue to catch walleyes on the submerged reefs by trolling with a Lindy rig and a crawler. A few walleyes are also being caught near rocky shorelines. Smallmouth bass have been more active on rocky shorelines, and northerns can be found near the mouths of Cranberry and Lost bays. On the Rainy River, anglers are doing fairly well, both above and below the Manitou and Long Sault rapids near Indus and Birchdale.
Big Stone Lake: Perch have been extremely active on the traditional hot spots such as GrapeVine, BayView and Rocky Point using nightcrawlers or minnows during the mornings or late afternoons. Anglers can also troll 75-100 feet on the Minnesota side along Lou's Point and in the Windmill Reef and Goose Isle area to catch perch.
Lake Mille Lacs: During daytime, walleye action has been best on such flats as Eight Mile, Curly's and Resort using spinner rigs with nightcrawlers or leeches. For evening walleye action, the Backer Flat, Sherman's Flat and Three Mile Flat have produced the best action on the top edges at 22-24 feet using leeches. Brown's Point, Knox Point and the Myr Mar area have produced the best smallmouth action at 4-12 feet. Sunfish can be caught at 8-12 feet and crappies at 12-19 feet near weedlines on crappie minnows.
Bemidji area: The best walleye bite has been on days with stable weather on lakes such as Winnibigoshish and Upper Red, Bemidji and Cass. Most anglers are catching walleyes on the tops of humps and bars or the outside edges of weedlines using minnows. Northern pike, bass, sunfish and perch are active during the day on most area lakes.
Chisago City area: Largemouth bass are being caught on various area lakes, such as Chisago, North Center, South Center and South Lindstrom on jig worms, buzz baits or spinner baits. Walleye action has slowed a bit, but a few are being caught on Big Green Lake, under slip bobbers with leeches. Panfish can be caught on all area lakes.
Lake Winnibigoshish: According to Bowen Lodge, walleyes are being caught along weedlines at 8-12 feet, on crankbaits or spinners trolled on the north and west side or the southeast corner. Northerns have been biting on weedlines on the north and west shorelines, hitting crankbaits or large spoons. Perch can be caught on the rocky areas at about 8-14 feet, on a jig and minnow.
