Ever been tempted to collect stamps that carry images of birds? I've thought about it, but I hesitate to acquire a hobby that demands active acquisition of anything. I do buy and use any U.S. postage stamps illustrated with birds. There are many, many collectors, though, and next April 9-12 some of them will be meeting in Belgium for BIRDPEX 6, an international event devoted exclusively to birds in philately (stamp collecting). The event Web site is at www.birdpex.be. Better yet, take a look at some of the beautiful bird stamps that have been issued by countries around the world. Go to http://www.bird-stamps.org/ and choose either the "species" link or the links by country. You'll find beautiful bird art of species spanning the world list. It's easy to see why people collect these. These stamp make me tempted anew. I looked through the small collection of stamps I assembled as a child. I found one stamp with a bird image, this Great Egret on a stamp honoring Everglades National Park (enlarged here).
