St. Thomas Academy interim athletic director Jason Sedlak, who took over the position in September after the death of a longtime school official, left the job Friday, a school spokesperson confirmed.

The resignation of Sedlak, a 1993 graduate of the school, was effective immediately, the spokesperson said. "The school is very sad to see him go.''

Attempts to reach Sedlak Friday evening were not successful. The spokesperson would not comment on what led to his decision to resign.

Sedlak, who had been the football team's defensive coordinator, took over as athletic director after Jack Zahr, 58, died of complications related to a stroke. Zahr had spent his entire career at the private school, based in Mendota Heights, and helped lead it to nearly 40 state championships.
