A 66-year-old St. Paul woman is in the hospital with life threatening injuries and her son is in custody after an early morning shooting Wednesday.

A little before 5 a.m., St. Paul police were called to the 400 block of Robie Street E. on the city's West Side on reports of a woman being shot.

Ester Richards was transported to Regions Hospital with a gun shot wound, according to St. Paul Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Paulos. The woman's condition is unknown at this time, Paulos said.

Her son, who made the call to police, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault. Police aren't looking for any other suspects and had no details on what led to the shooting.

Paulos said there were weapons in the home. The investigation into the shooting continues.
