St. Paul schools to pick board member

The St. Paul school board will name a replacement for board member Jean O'Connell after a round of interviews on Tuesday. There are nine candidates:

• Cedrick Baker

• Eduardo Barrera

• Juchoj Fang

• Ali Farah

• Tom Goldstein

• Melanie McMahon

• Wendy Robinson

• Zachary Owen Wilson

Interviews will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the school board office at 360 Colborne St. The meeting will be televised on St. Paul Cable Channel 16 and streamed on spps.org. The appointee will serve until a successor is elected in November.

O'Connell announced her resignation in June in response to the board's 5-2 vote to oust Superintendent Valeria Silva. She said she was resigning because of the "disrespectful, destructive and cynical" nature of the current board.
