St. Paul Saints fall to visiting Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs scored in four consecutive innings, starting with the fifth, to beat the St. Paul Saints 7-3 on Thursday night at CHS Field.

The Cubs (5-3) took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning on Trayce Thompson's two-run homer. But the Saints (3-6) tied the score in the bottom of the inning, with Jimmy Kerrigan's double driving in the first run and Nick Gordon's infield single the second.

Iowa went ahead 3-2 in the sixth on Taylor Gushue's run-scoring single and kept adding on runs.

Damek Tomscha hit a homer in the seventh for the Saints' final run. Chandler Shepherd took the loss, giving up six runs — four earned — and nine hits in 2 ⅔ innings.
