St. Paul's Ramsey Middle School on lockdown after report of visitor with a weapon

St. Paul's Ramsey Middle School was locked down Friday after a former district student entered the building without obtaining a visitor's pass.

The school, located at 1700 Summit Ave., went into lockdown about 11:20 a.m. and remained locked down until the end of the school day at 2 p.m., said school district spokeswoman Toya Stewart Downey.

The former student, a female, eventually left the building before noon without incident, Stewart Downey said.

St. Paul police spokesman Steve Linders said police were called to the school for "a person with a weapon."

The juvenile female had entered the building in order to fight a student at the school, Linders said. She left the building of her own accord before police arrived.

Linders said authorities could not confirm whether the former student had a weapon. The motive for the alleged fight is unclear.

Stewart Downey said that rumors that the former student had a knife are just rumors, and that there is no confirmation that the person was armed with a weapon.

There was no known threat made that coincided with the former student's visit, Stewart Downey said.
