Cheeky Monkey, the well-known St. Paul eatery, announced Sunday that it will be closing its doors forever, to the chagrin of its customers and social media followers.

The restaurant, which just celebrated its seventh birthday, announced the closure on Facebook around 8 p.m. Sunday night. Within a few hours it had gathered over 200 comments and "sad" faces, a smattering of nearly 40 likes, just over 20 "angry" reactions, and a single "wow."

Andy Snell, general manager at the restaurant, said he had nothing but good things to say about the restaurant's time in the Cathedral Hill neighborhood.

"We will miss everybody, and I know we will be missed," he said.

Snell will be on site to deal with various loose ends, including restaurant gift cards until March 11.
