St. Paul police shot and wounded a man Tuesday after he and another suspect fled from officers in the midst of a drug investigation.

Police attempted to stop a car about 6 p.m. when two suspects jumped out of the moving vehicle and fled on foot near Dale Street and Interstate 94.

One suspect raised a gun in the direction of an officer, according to police spokesman Howie Padilla. The officer fired, hitting him twice, Padilla said.

The wounded 23-year-old suspect was taken to Regions Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The other suspect was arrested after a short foot chase.

Police recovered two guns.

Two other suspects fled in another vehicle. Police found both men at a restaurant, where they were arrested.
