St. Paul police are investigating the suspicious death of a 6-year-old girl Tuesday and have arrested the child's mother.

A little after 8 a.m., police were called to the 1300 block of E. Maynard Drive to assist fire medics with a possible drowning, according to a news release by the St. Paul police.

Medics took the girl to Children's St. Paul Pediatric Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The girl's mother was arrested and police aren't searching for any other suspects.

Investigators are working with the Ramsey County medical examiner's office to confirm the girl's identity and to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police are still investigating to determine what happened moments before the incident took place.
