A St. Paul man was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for killing a man last year in the Frogtown neighborhood.
James Davis-Drew, 26, was convicted by a jury in June of two counts of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Erick Renada Pineda Ordonez, of St. Paul.
Davis-Drew was sentenced Friday in Ramsey County District Court.
Authorities said the murder occurred during a robbery on Oct. 11. Ordonez's empty wallet was found inside a grill in a yard at 639 Van Buren Av., where Davis-Drew was known to occasionally stay.
Bank records showed that Ordonez had withdrawn more than $300 from his account a little after 2 a.m. on Oct. 11 at a SuperAmerica station.
According to the complaint, Ordonez's body was found slumped over the door of a car registered in his name. He died from four gunshot wounds.
Authorities placed Davis-Drew at the crime scene using a fingerprint located on the inside handle of the front passenger door of Ordonez's car.
Surveillance video from the SuperAmerica also showed Davis-Drew getting into Ordonez's car with two other men.
