A 22-year-old St. Paul man died early Sunday after he fell out of a boat on a Wisconsin lake and resuscitation efforts by friends and paramedics failed, authorities said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was riding in a 12-foot aluminum boat with at least four friends when it capsized around 3:30 a.m. on Antler Lake in Milltown Township, about 70 miles northeast of the Twin Cities, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

The victim was having difficulty swimming to shore and yelled for help. Another person who had been on the boat found him under the surface of the water and pulled him to shore. Friends began CPR until paramedics arrived, the Sheriff's Office said.

Paramedics continued resuscitation efforts while they took him by ambulance to St. Croix Regional Medical Center in St. Croix Falls, Wis. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, the Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident.
