A St. Paul man was arrested and charged this week in the Aug. 31 shooting death of a man in the Seven Corners area of Minneapolis.

Abdullahi Said Awil of Minneapolis, 24, was found dead after he was shot in the abdomen behind Bullwinkle's Bar and the Jewel of India, near the U's West Bank.

Prosecutors on Monday charged Farhan Hersi, 29, with second-degree murder. Hersi, a member of the St. Paul Pistol Boyz gang, was with a group of people when he shot Awil at close range before running away, according to the criminal complaint.

Police reviewed surveillance video and identified Hersi as the shooter, the complaint said.

Hersi had been sought since last month and was arrested in the last 24 hours, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office said.
