A hotel worker in St. Paul raped a customer inside her room over the weekend, according to charges filed Monday.

Nolasco Lopez Ramirez, 25, of St. Paul, was charged in Ramsey County District Court with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for an alleged attack that occurred Saturday at the Days Inn at 1964 University Av.

According to the complaint: Police responded to the hotel at 4:20 p.m. A young woman said that Lopez Ramirez knocked on her hotel room door and said he needed to inspect the room.

The woman propped the door open with a baby stroller, sat down and did some homework. The woman's infant was also in the room. Lopez Ramirez made the bed, told the woman that other guests had complained about noise and leaned on the nightstand.

He moved closer to the woman, who ordered him to back off. The woman went to the bathroom to find dirty towels in hope that Lopez Ramirez would leave with them, but he followed her and closed the bathroom door behind them, the charges said.

Lopez Ramirez kissed the woman, who pushed him away and ordered him to stop. He advanced on the woman and raped her, according to the complaint.

Lopez Ramirez allegedly gave the woman a $5 bill before he left the hotel room. The woman saw three hotel maids in the hall and yelled to them that Lopez Ramirez had raped her.

Police spoke to hotel employees, who reported that Lopez told a maid he would clean the woman's room, that he had been acting "really touchy and weird lately" and that he asked one employee if she was going to strip for him for his birthday, which was on April 13.

Lopez Ramirez was arrested, and allegedly told police that he stayed past his 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift Saturday because the hotel was busy. He said he was in charge of housekeeping, and told the maids he would clean rooms that had overnight guests and the maids would clean rooms that guests had vacated, the charges said.

He allegedly told police he had consumed a lot of alcohol before the alleged assault, but police did not smell alcohol on him. He denied having had sex with a hotel guest.
