A 120-year-old St. Paul bakery closed on a deal Wednesday to buy about 9 acres of land from the St. Paul Port Authority on the city's East Side.
Baldinger Bakery paid $450,000 for the property, once a foundry, which sits between Phalen Boulevard and Johnson Parkway. The deal was announced in October.
Plans call for a $30 million, 140,000-square-foot facility. Construction is expected to begin soon, according to the Port Authority.
Baldinger, in business since 1888, has a 46,000-square-foot operation on the West Side. It bakes hamburger buns for McDonald's restaurants, among other things. Baldinger will bring 72 workers to the new site and has pledged to add 40 jobs during the next decade.
