St. Paul assessing damage from fallen rock onto Wabasha Street

May 1, 2018 at 2:03AM

The city of St. Paul is asking drivers and pedestrians to steer clear of a section of Wabasha Street on the West Side where rocks from a cliff tumbled onto the road Saturday afternoon.

The section of road is between Plato Boulevard and Humboldt Avenue. No was injured in the rock slide, and there was no damage to private property.

This week, the city will put up additional detour routes for vehicles and pedestrians and install more fencing to secure the area.

The city said Monday that it has started assessing the surrounding bluff area. A private consulting firm will recommend a plan to address immediate safety concerns, remediation and cleanup and future mitigation.

The city said it expects to have an "action plan" by the end of the week.
