St. Cloud State edges Gophers 4-3 despite late 'U' rally

The Huskies built a 4-1 lead in the second period in upsetting the nation's No. 1-rated team.

Freshman Ryan Faragher stopped 40 shots as St. Cloud State beat the No. 1-rated Gophers 4-3 on Friday at the National Hockey Center before 5,772.

Ben Hanowski scored the Huskies' first goal and had two assists. David Eddy, the other first line winger, had three assists.

The Gophers, who outshot SCSU 43-18, created some suspense with two goals in the final five minutes. Tom Serratore scored on a tip to bring the Gophers within 4-2. Then Kyle Rau made it 4-3 with three minutes left.

The Gophers (10-3-0, 7-2-0) and the Huskies (6-5-2, 4-2-1) will meet again at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mariucci Arena.
