The Ugliness of Intolerance

December 11, 2009 at 4:51AM

When the religious customs and beliefs of any Minnesota citizen group, in this case the Muslim community, are publicly mocked and insulted, it forms a negative picture of the State of Minnesota. Those responsible have done their community a great disfavor. It is an embarrassment, and a blemish on the reputation of our state. We live in a country that was created for the benefit of all its citizens, not just the ones we happen to agree with. How many people came to this country to be free from religious persecution?

In this time, that is associated with good will towards others, we must encourage tolerance, so that our community is united for the good of all. We must join together to protect the rights of our fellow Muslim citizens, as Minnesotans, and as Americans.

Just as we would expect them to do the same for us.
