Thomas headed to Cowboys Linebacker Zach Thomas is headed home to Texas to play for the Dallas Cowboys in the state where he was a high school and college standout before 12 seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Thomas has reached an agreement on a one-year, $3 million deal with the Cowboys, agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed Saturday night. Thomas, a seven-time Pro Bowler who missed much of last season because of concussions and migraines, has already taken a physical for the Cowboys.

• Quarterback Rex Grossman signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears. ... Rosenhaus also said he expected Bears clients Bernard Berrian and Lance Briggs to enter free agency.

BOXING

Klitschko wins unified title Vladimir Klitschko barely took a punch while winning a unanimous decision over Sultan Ibragimov in New York, defending his IBF title and claiming Ibragimov's WBO belt in the first heavyweight unification fight in nearly nine years.

With little more than an insistent jab, the 6-7 Klitschko (50-3, 44 KOs) slapped and herded Ibragimov (22-1-1) around the ring in front of a Madison Square Garden crowd of 14,011 filled with Russians who whistled and booed during the frequent stretches of inaction.

TENNIS

Russians reach Qatar final Maria Sharapova defeated Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 6-3 to extend her unbeaten run to 13 matches and set up an all-Russian final at the Qatar Open in Doha.

Sharapova, who avenged her loss to Radwanska at the U.S. Open, will play Vera Zvonareva in the final today. Zvonareva rallied past Li Na 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal.

TRACK AND FIELD

Deatherage second in 1,500 Former Team USA Minnesota runner Jenelle Deatherage took second in the 1,500 meters at the U.S indoor track and field championships in Boston.

Deatherage finished in 4 minutes, 17.38 seconds, more than 3 seconds behind winner Christin Wurth, and qualified for the indoor world championships next month in Spain.

Former Minnesota State Mankato athlete Jim Dilling finished fourth in the men's high jump at 7-3¼, and Katie McGregor of Team Minnesota USA finished fourth in the women's 3,000-meter run in 9:03.34.

WINTER SPORTS

Austrian wins on Olympic hill Austria's Hannes Reichelt won a World Cup giant slalom in Whistler, British Columbia, on the same course that will host the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
