Southern Miss eliminated

Brett Favre's favorite college baseball team has been ousted from the NCAA tournament.

The Southern Miss baseball team will not be making a return trip to the College World Series.

A few weeks after Brett Favre told players from the baseball team that he would return to the Vikings if they made it back to the World Series, the Golden Eagles were ousted from the NCAA tournament with a 17-8 loss to Auburn on Sunday. Clemson beat Southern Miss, 10-1, on Friday but the Golden Eagles avoided elimination on Saturday with a 19-6 victory over Jacksonville State.

So what does this mean for Favre? One would think absolutely nothing -- other than the fact he isn't going to get to watch his favorite college baseball club play again this season.

The fact Favre underwent arthroscopic surgery on his ankle appears to be a clear indication he would like to return for a 20th NFL season.

By the way, this now concludes Access Vikings' contribution to the Star Tribune's coverage of college baseball. Hope you've all enjoyed.
