Southeast Drought Becoming Worse

Large parts of the southeastern United States have been abnormally dry thesecond half of the summer, and it looks like this pattern will continue throughthe remainder of this week.High pressure will remain off the Southeast coast the next few days, keepingthe moist flow of air well to the south and northwest of the region.

According to the United States Drought Monitor, parts of eastern Virginia andsoutheastern Alabama are experiencing severe drought conditions. Moderatedrought conditions persist over southern Georgia, upstate South Carolina andeastern North Carolina.

Moist air from the tropics could bring much-needed showers and thunderstorms tothe region later this weekend and into next week.
