High school gets Energy Star Award

Northfield High School has received the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Award for the building's indoor environmental performance.

The school is the first building in Northfield to be labeled an Energy Star Building, the school district said.

Since October 2008, the high school has avoided more than $33,000 in energy costs.

The district has been working with the Schools for Energy Efficiency program to improve efficiency in all its schools.

After it demonstrated an improvement of more than 10 percent in overall energy performance, the EPA recognized the district for leadership in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
