A 58-year-old man was arrested early Friday in connection with a woman's death at a home in South St. Paul.

South St. Paul Police Chief William Messerich said officers were called to the residence in the 500 block of 9th Avenue S. at 4:05 a.m. on a report of a body. After finding a 45-year-old woman dead inside the home, police took a man into custody for questioning, Messerich said. They are not seeking anyone else.

Messerich said the suspect and victim "were known to each other," but did not elaborate on their relationship.

The suspect was booked into the Dakota County jail shortly before 9 a.m. The Dakota County attorney's office is expected to file charges ahead of the man's first court appearance on Monday.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Hennepin County medical examiner's office are assisting in the investigation.

Messerich said an autopsy is scheduled this weekend, after which the medical examiner will release the victim's identity.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
