LAKEVILLE

Friends of Education honored The Lakeville School District recognized five people last month as 2010 Friends of Education.

The district honored Margaret Schlegel for her volunteer service, Pam Teorey for the arts, Tim King for education, Martha Johnson for human service and Dave Olson for distinguished service.

900-mile bike ride will aid mentor group A metro-area businessman will set out May 27 on an annual 900-mile bicycle ride to raise money for a nonprofit organization that matches kids ages 5-16 with volunteer mentors.

John Elder, who is also a mentor for Kids 'n Kinship, hopes to raise $30,000 for the cause. The trek is scheduled to start in Davenport, Iowa, and end in Apple Valley on June 12.
