School board appoints new memberThe Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school board has appointed Gary Huusko to fill a vacancy on the board created when Kevin Sampers resigned in August. The Eagan resident was chosen over six other applicants the board interviewed for the position last week.

Huusko is an attorney at an Apple Valley firm. He and his wife have a son at Eagan High and a daughter who graduated from the school in 2010, according to the school district.

Huusko joined the district's budget advisory council in 2004 and has chaired the panel since 2010. He also served on a district strategic planning task force that met this summer.

He has volunteered with a variety of local organizations, including the Eagan Rotary Club and Eagan Citizens' Crime Prevention Association. He also has coached teams for the Eagan Athletic Association.

The term he is filling runs through 2013.
