South school briefs: Burnsville school board selects new superintendent

The Burnsville school board has named Joe Gothard as the district's next superintendent.

Before unanimously choosing Gothard last week, the board had narrowed the field to two candidates — Gothard, who is currently an assistant superintendent in the Madison Metropolitan School District in Madison, Wis., and Darren Kermes, executive director of the Carver Scott Educational Cooperative and Minnesota River Valley Special Education Cooperative.

Gothard, who has been a teacher, principal and dean of students, will begin work July 1, replacing Randy Clegg, the current superintendent. The board is currently negotiating Gothard's contract.

The assistant superintendent in the Burnsville school district, Chris Lindholm, will be leaving this summer to become the assistant superintendent in Pequot Lakes, Minn.

Lindholm has held his current job for three years. The district will likely post the opening this summer, with the new superintendent making decisions on hiring.

Residents of the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District are invited to apply for the Budget Advisory Council (BAC) through April 30.

There is one licensed staff position and three parent, guardian or community member positions open. The terms of all four positions will begin on July 1 and are three years in duration.

District 199 is proposing moving its early childhood programs to a new 11,000-square-foot facility to be built on the Hilltop Elementary campus at a cost of $2.5 million.

Currently the district houses these programs in a leased South St. Paul space called Family Connections, which it shares with the South St. Paul School District.

The proposed new facility, to be added onto the northwest corner of Hilltop Elementary, would have a door that connects to the existing school as well as its own main entrance.
