Burnsville-Eagan-Savage

Public retirement party for Kanninen District 191 is throwing a public retirement celebration for Superintendent Ben Kanninen from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. May 20 in the upper level of the Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Pkwy.

Kanninen, the 2005 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year, has been with the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage district since 1998 and retires June 30.

School year ends early The school year in four buildings in District 191 will end a day early for maintenance.

The last day of school for students at Edward Neill, Gideon Pond and Vista View elementary schools in Burnsville as well as at the Cedar Alternative High School in Eagan and the Vale Education Center in the same building will be June 4. The last day of school for all the other students in the district will be June 5.

LAKEVILLE

Technology fundraiser Century Middle School will host a garage sale, the "Sale of the Century," to raise money for new technology at the school. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the school, 185th Street and Ipava Avenue.

PRIOR LAKE-SAVAGE

Lakers take second in state Knowledge Bowl The Prior Lake High School Knowledge Bowl team placed second at the state competition April 18, coming in only one half point behind champion Eden Prairie.

The team competed in the AA division. Members of the team, coached by Andy Franklin and Dave Panetti, include Shaun Gosse, Luke LoPresto, Nick Rolston, Eric Soleim, and Mason Green.

Garage sale will raise money for band Rosemount High School's award-winning band is holding its sixth annual garage sale fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the high school student center.
