Meeks was among four candidates chosen to interview with the Grand Island school board and other community leaders this week, said Betty Wagner, assistant to the Grand Island superintendent.

The Grand Island district has about 9,000 students. Farmington, where Meeks has been superintendent since 2003, has about 6,400.

Middle-school study results to be revealedA committee that has mulled changes to middle schools in the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan school district will present its recommendations at a special meeting on Thursday.

The committee, which included school principals, looked for ways to boost student achievement and run the district's six middle schools more efficiently on a tight budget.

The recommendations include having students attend fewer, longer class periods in a day and spend more time on core subjects, said district spokesman Tony Taschner, who declined to share further details before Thursday's meeting.

The meeting will be held from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. at Falcon Ridge Middle School in Apple Valley. The recommendations will be presented to the school board on Dec. 13.
