Kids 'n Kinship wins community award Dakota Electric Association has recognized Kids 'n Kinship, an Apple Valley-based mentoring program, as a 2009 Touchstone Energy Community Award winner.
The Minnesota Valley Humane Society's Pet Visitation program and Angel Foundation, a group that provides financial assistance for cancer patients and their families, were runners-up for the award that honors organizations that make outstanding contributions to the community.
"Dakota Electric is proud to be able to recognize these organizations doing great work in our local communities," said Greg Miller, Dakota Electric's president and chief executive officer. "As a member-owned cooperative, we are committed to our local communities and this is a way to encourage and honor those who are like-minded."
Each organization received a plaque and a $500 check from Dakota Electric Association.
Kids 'n Kinship, which serves about 170 children each year by connecting them with adult mentors, will compete for the statewide Minnesota Touchstone Energy Community award, with the winner to be announced during the Minnesota Rural Electric Association's annual meeting.
