South Metro arts: Rosemount's Art Blast festival ends Sunday

Sunday is the last day for Rosemount's 11-day community art festival, Art Blast.

Along with the ongoing Dale Lewis sculpture exhibition in Central Park and an art exhibit by Melissa Black at the Rosemount Library, events Sunday include Zumba in the Park, 9 to 10 a.m. at the Central Park amphitheater; piano music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rudy's Red Eye Grill; and a John Phillips Sousa Memorial Band Concert at 7 p.m. in Central Park.

All events are free.

This week's events at the Lakeville Area Arts Center revolve around activities for kids ages 6 to 12 and one recommended for kids ages 8 to 14. They include:

• "Drawing Mystical Creatures," from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday. Kids will get their own sketchbook to take home. Cost is $36.

• "Owl Tote and T-shirt," from 9:30 to noon Tuesday. Participants will create a heavy-duty tote bag and T-shirt and are asked to bring a prewashed T-shirt of any color. Cost is $30.

• "Mixed Media Painting: Cupcake," from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Kids 8 to 14 will use canvas, paint, ink and collage to make a unique piece of art. Cost is $30.

Jazz duo Lee Engele and Reynold Philipsek will perform Sunday as part of the Heart of the City Music Festival.

The show starts at 7 p.m. at Nicollet Commons Park, 12600 Nicollet Av.

Upcoming performances include Smorgasbord (polka) on July 5; the Northern Winds Band on July 12; Xibaba (Brazilian, jazz and world music) on July 19; the Dirty Shorts Brass Band (New Orleans style brass band) on July 26, and the Mancouche Jazz Hot Club on Aug. 2.

The Whitesidewalls, a doo-wop, rock 'n' roll band, will perform Wednesday as part of the Wednesday in the Park Concert Series.

Bring a nonperishable food item and receive a Pepsi product in exchange. The Burnsville Senior Center will sell popcorn for $1.

Upcoming shows include My Sweet Patootie (modern vaudeville, roots and ragtime) on July 8; Tricia and the Toonies (music, skits and puppets) on July 15; the Dakota Valley Summer Pops and Chorale on July 22; High Country (country rock) on July 29, and Remembering the King, a tribute to Elvis Presley, on Aug. 5.
