Freedom Days starts this weekend Apple Valley is hosting its annual Freedom Days parade and events Friday through July 4.

Freedom Days kicks off with a classic car show Friday night. Cub Foods is sponsoring a free Family Fun Night next Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. It features a petting zoo, pony rides, food and games. Other events include bands in the evenings, and fishing and tennis contests.

PRIOR LAKE

Mystic Lake plans fireworks display The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, owner of the Mystic Lake Hotel and Casino, plans a Fourth of July fireworks display at the tribal powwow grounds, 3212 Dakotah Pkwy. in Prior Lake.

Admission is free and fireworks will go on, rain or shine, unless there is severe weather. The show will begin about 10 p.m.

The tribe's annual powwow, or wacipi, will feature fireworks on Aug. 18.

SHAKOPEE

Canterbury Park holiday events set Wiener dog races and fireworks will highlight 4th of July festivities at Canterbury Park horse racing track.

The annual fireworks display will begin about 10 p.m. Tuesday. The top performers from races June 17 and 24 will compete in the wiener dog races on July 4.

Gates open at 3 p.m. Tuesday and 12:30 p.m. on July 4, with horse racing beginning an hour after the gates open each day.

NORTHFIELD

Bike races highlight July 4th celebration The 13th annual 4th of July Bike Criterium featuring top amateur bicyclists is the centerpiece of Independence Day celebrations next week in Northfield.

Bicycle races start at 9 a.m. July 4, with the final race beginning at 4:30 p.m. A children's parade begins at 6 p.m. A carnival from 5 to 7 p.m. will feature activities including games and face painting. Fireworks go off around 10 p.m. at the middle school grounds.

DUNDAS

Festival features classic car show The Dundas Historical Society's fifth annual Celebrate Dundas community festival Friday and Saturday will celebrate Dundas' history with a wide range of events.

A classic car show is expected to draw more than 200 cars to Railway Street. The Dundas Dukes baseball team will play the Elko Express at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday kicks off with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. and ends with a street dance beginning at 8 p.m. and featuring the 8th Street Band.
