Summer arts series for kids announced Kids and teens will learn to make pottery, fashion accessories, bead art, and good-old-fashioned paintings and drawings during a series of summer programs open for registration at the Lakeville Area Arts Center.

Most classes are four days and cost $75 and are for age groups from 4 to 14.

Other classes include one that uses nature to inspire art, one that encourages young kids to experiment with a variety of media, one where kids will make terra cotta dishes, and a sand and shell art class.

Young Native Pride dance show next week Young people will celebrate Dakota culture, traditions and spirituality with a free dance exhibition and art show on May 13 during the 13th annual Young Native Pride performance at Prior Lake High School in Savage.

Dancers in handmade regalia will perform to the songs of the Little Six Drum Group during the show, which will include young people from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) and other area communities.

After a daytime show for students, the dancers will present a show for the general public at 7 p.m.

Young Native Pride involves children from kindergarten through 12th grade. Students participating this year attend school at the SMSC Education Department's Home School, along with Prior Lake, Savage, Shakopee, New Prague, Belle Plaine, Bloomington and Hopkins public and private schools.

The Little Six Drum Group consists of adults and youth primarily from the SMSC.

Prior Lake High School is at 7575 W. 150th St. in Savage.
