South arts briefs: Lakeville man's art on display at Robert Trail Library

Paintings by retired Lake­ville businessman Gary Holthusan will be on display at the Robert Trail Library through September.

In a biography, Holthusan wrote that he started painting at age 6 and continued with pencil and charcoal drawing through college. After a 34-year career break, he resumed painting in retirement and completed 45 pieces, mostly landscapes, still life and portraits.

He said his painting style is realism and is modeled after artist Helen Van Wyk.

The Robert Trail Library is at 14395 S. Robert Trail. Its summer hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

'Barefoot in the Park' at the Arts Center

Expressions Community Theater will present Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park," through next Sunday at the Lakeville Area Arts Center, 20965 Holyoke Av.

Tickets are $13. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sundays.

Author fair seeks local writers

The Dakota County Library is looking for 40 local authors, illustrators, publishers and literary agents to take part in its Local Author Fair on Nov. 14.

Authors and publishers must submit an application and a copy of a published work by 5 p.m. Aug. 14. Materials can be e-mailed to tami.richardson@co.dakota.mn.us or sent to any Dakota County Library branch. Those chosen will be notified by Aug. 31.

The fair will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Western Service Center atrium, 14955 Galaxie Av. in Apple Valley.

Libraries host craft fairs with kids' art

The Dakota County Library is hosting craft fairs at branch libraries to feature the work of children ages 4 to 16. All items are priced at $2 or less.

The craft fairs will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the following locations: Wednesday at Wescott Library in Eagan, Aug. 11 at Galaxie Library in Apple Valley, and Aug. 13 at Robert Trail Library in Rosemount.
