I received more than a few notes Tuesday about a reference Michael Silver made in his Yahoo! Sports column to the fact that Brad Childress could have lost his job if the Vikings had lost to Dallas on Oct. 17.
Wrote Silver: "Some in the Vikings facility speculated before last Sunday's victory over the Cowboys that a defeat could have led to Brad Childress' dismissal, with highly regarded defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier installed as the interim coach."
The Vikings won that game, 24-21, but NFL sources said even if they had lost Childress was in no danger of being removed as coach. This makes sense given that Childress signed a contract extension in November 2009 that extends through the 2013 season and is believed to be worth between $4 to $5 million a season.
Things certainly aren't going as expected for the Vikings and there is a real chance they could fall to 2-5 on Sunday when they play at New England. That could mean owner Zygi Wilf eventually takes a look at his head coach. However, it wasn't going to happen five games into the season.
