Some made special plans for Sequential Saturday

Saturday was a special calendar day that could mean a little extra luck, or at least an easier-to-remember wedding anniversary, depending on who you are.

Saturday was 12/13/14, the last sequential calendar date for at least 20 years. Some commemorated the day by getting hitched.

"It is a super busy day for us," said Chris McKee, bridal consultant at Chapel of Love at the Mall of America.

The chapel is booked up in terms of ceremonies with nine scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., McKee said.

"With the date being sequential, that really adds to the draw of the date," she said.

New Hope numerologist Wes Hamilton says there's more to Saturday's numbers than a novelty date for newlyweds.

"It just sounds like a fun day, but their intuition is saying there's a bigger thing going on here," he said.

"It's a great day to get married because the numbers are sequential. It's a sign of growing into our reality if we know what we want. … Tomorrow is going to even make that a stronger commitment," he said Friday night.

The gambling mecca of Las Vegas conducts a large chunk of the sequential weddings. On 11-11-11, more than 3,000 marriage licenses were issued, according to Vegas.com. Saturday's wedding date demand led to 12-13-14 hotel packages, in which honeymooners could arrange to stay in a sequentially numbered room, such as suite 1213 located on the 14th floor of the hotel.

Some retailers use the unusual date for promoting discounts.

Wal-Mart rolled back prices on hundreds of items, including 12 highlighted deals — on toys, game consoles and big-screen TVs — that are sequenced on Saturdays through Christmas, according to their website.

And an online book club took to Twitter, offering to give away $10 Barnes & Noble gift cards if people retweeted their post, followed them at @AllBookedUpYA, and mentioned their favorite novel for young adults.
