There is hope for even the most difficult-to-sell houses: A foam and burlap house that looks like a giant mushroom (really) in Minnetrista finally sold for $170,000. I'd mentioned the house in this blog and we printed a story about it several months ago. The listing agent, Dayna Murray of Keller Williams Realty, said that the buyers are from Virginia and bought the house sight-unseen based on photos posted on the internet. Really.

Known as the "Ensculptic House," the place was built in the 1970s and had been vacant - and for sale - for several years.. Murray said that hundreds of people looked at the house and many prospective buyers thought that it was so bizarre, it was better torn down. But when the husband did a walk-through right before closing, he apparently gave the seller a huge hug.

Murray said that despite the home's very odd appearance, she could have sold it "50 times," but the house was impossible to finance (can you imagine trying to find comps for the appraisal?), so it had to be a cash deal. Murray said that she also got calls about it from MTV, Merv Griffin Studios and others were interested in featuring in a variety of weird house stories. Williams said the new owners plan to fix it up and use it as their retirement home.

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
