• The United Kingdom's vote to leave the European Union leaves the Premier League in an uncertain state. Players from EU countries will now have to get work permits to play in England, and there are strict guidelines for whether those will be granted — all based on the player's appearances with his national team. All-stars such as N'Golo Kante and Dimitri Payet, as well as perhaps 100 other players in England, would currently not qualify for work permits. England might have to either relax its work-permit rules for soccer players, or accept a decline from the position as a destination league for players around the world.

• The U.S. women's national team begins its pursuit of Olympic gold next month, and the squad is getting healthy at the right time. Midfielder Carli Lloyd, the star of last year's World Cup, and star winger Megan Rapinoe are both returning to the team's training camp this week. Lloyd is likely to play in a friendly against South Africa on July 9; Rapinoe, recovering from an ACL tear, will have to wait longer to return.
