Soaking Midwest rain to shift east

Soaking rain will spread eastward over the Midwest along with a major stormalso sparking severe thunderstorms.Monday night and Tuesday, soaking rain, some bolstered by thunderstorms, willspread eastward along a broad front between the Ohio Valley and the middleGreat Lakes region.

The leading edge of steadiest rain will cross the central Appalachians to themid-Atlantic Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Rainfall of 1 to 2 inches through Tuesday night will pelt Chicago, Detroit,Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Saint Louis.

Effect of the rain will be mostly to slow highway traffic and to delay flightsat some major airports. Locally, rainfall may be high enough, or happen quicklyenough, to triggered urban and small stream flooding.
