A snowstorm had significant impacts to travel across the Greater London areaon Friday. Up to 4-5 inches fell just outside of London. The snow diminished onFriday night across much of England, but another frontal boundary will bringanother opportunity for accumulating snowfall on Saturday night. More travelproblems are expected on the ground and in the air as another 1-3 inches ofsnow is expected to blanket much of the country.The snow which already fell snarled traffic and delayed flights and trains.
Many accidents were also blamed on the wintry weather, including in the countyof Buckinghamshire and the county of Kent.
Significant snow is not common to London. The normal annual snowfall in Londonis only a few inches.
Just this past February, London was buried with up to 8 inches of snow. Thiswas London's biggest snowstorm in 18 years. In February 1991, 10 inchesfell.
The next question is, will the snow stay in London for Christmas? A whiteChristmas in London is a very rare occurrence. However, with a cold air massexpected to linger for much of the upcoming week chances are better than usualfor a white Christmas in The Old Smoke.
