Snowshoe hikes, special fishing weekend on tap at state, regional parks

Snowshoe hikes

Tettegouche State Park

1-4 p.m. Saturday

• Snowshoe up to the Cascades of the Baptism River with a naturalist, and return back down to Lake Superior to finish. Snowshoes are available first-come, first-served. (1-218-353-8809, mndnr.gov)

Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

1-2 p.m. Saturday

• Learn about the techniques animals use to deal with cold Minnesota winters. A brief talk and how-to-snowshoe lesson will be followed by a short snowshoe hike. Afton State Park

10 a.m.-noon Saturday

Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park

1-3 p.m. Saturday

Take a kid ice fishing

Whitewater State Park

10 a.m.-noon Saturday

Target pike

Fish Lake Regional Park

12:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday

Visit the dark house and coax this alpha lake predator in with a decoy or on a tip up during what's called the Northern Pike Palooza. Cost is $10. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation. This program is for ages 6 and older. (threerivers­parks.org)

Learn to geocache

Fort Snelling State Park

1-2:30 p.m. Sunday

Skiing lessons

Elm Creek Park Reserve

9:30-11 a.m. Sunday
