A snowmobiler from Minnesota was killed in an avalanche in the mountains of Idaho, officials said.

The avalanche struck on Sunday in the Centennial Mountains near Island Park, just to the west of Wyoming and south of Montana, according to the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as 21-year-old Landon Fox of Amboy in southern Minnesota.

Sheriff Mark McClure told the East Idaho News that Fox was among four snowmobilers who got caught in the small avalanche. McClure said the others escaped with minor injuries.

McClure added that Fox’s snowmobile became stuck on the slope, and the avalanche was triggered when someone in his group came down to help him.
