Snow fell across southern Minnesota overnight dumping more than 10 inches in some south central counties.
By 3 a.m., parts of Mapleton recorded 10.5 inches, while 9.5 inches fell in St. James and 9.4 inches in Madelia. As of 1:45 a.m., 7.5 inches had fallen in Lake Crystal, 7 inches in Albert Lea and 6 inches in Mankato.
While snow continues to fall in the southeastern part of the state, the northwestern corner is under a winter weather advisory from noon until 9 p.m. today. Motorists may be blinded by blowing snow created by wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported a few overnight accidents in the metro area, and slick road conditions may have been a factor.
But the Twin Cities escaped the heavy snow, and temps today are expected to warm up to the low 20s.
