A storm that is bringing a rare snow to Texas and the Deep South today intotonight will sweep off the Southeast coast into the western Atlantic by earlySaturday. With this expected storm track, snow will accumulate from thesouthern Appalachians into the mid-Atlantic states.A change in the storm's track could mean the difference between heavy rain anddisruptive snow for any given location.
As it stands, the heaviest snow will bury the southern Appalachians. The SmokyMountains in North Carolina could have more than 6 inches of snow. A widerswath of 3-6 inches of snow could make travel dangerous into the mountains inWestern Virginia and central and northern parts of Virginia.
Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York City may all have at least acoating to an inch of snow with the current thinking on the track of the storm.
Heavier amounts will cause trouble for northwestern suburbs of these majorcities.
Travel could be slick and slow along some highways and many secondary roads.
Some highways that could be impacted include I-95, I-81, and I-76.
